Shahkot is in the Nankana Sahib District. The town has a population of about 400,000 and is located at co-ordinates 31°33'42" north 73°29'15" east.
Shahkot is on the Sheikhupura-Faisalabad highway which brings much traffic to the area. The town is connected by road to Sangla Hill, Chak Jhumra, Salarwala, Jaranwala and the district capital Nankana Sahib. The town is situated in a hilly area. Many worshippers come to the shrine of Syed Abu-Al-Khair Baba Nolukh Hazari. This shrine is at the summit of a hill and people visit it and offer prayers. A festival is conducted there every year on March 23 in order to celebrate the birth of this Sufi. There are two high schools for boys, one for girls and a college. Their names are Govt High school No 1 and Abu-Al-Khair High School For Boys (Govt High School No 2). There are also some private educational institutions as well.
